Description

Saint Pierre de Chartreuse is an authentic village ski resort situated in the heart of the Chartreuse mountains. It is also a popular destination in summer attracting walkers and mountain bikers amongst other visitors. The architecture is typical for the region and, with a couple of exceptions dating from the 1960s white gold rush the modern buildings blend with the old.

In the summer there is a swimming pool, tennis, mini-golf, adventure park. It is possible to fish for trout and other species in the rivers that tumble through secret gorges. The Scia is a popular spot for paragliding.

The lift served skiing extends from the heart of the village at 900 metres to the summit of la Scia at 1800 metres. There are lift served 24 runs at all levels covering 35 km ski pistes. There are also 70 km of cross country trails as well as many snowshoe walks. The resort has recently installed a high speed six seater chair. Although not a vast domain there are a number of off-pistes through wooded hills and valleys as well as extensive and challenging ski tours to the summit of the Grand and Petit Som, the Lances des Mallisard and from le Perquelin to the plateau of the Dent des Crolles.

There are some smart looking hotels in the village. The Hôtel Victoria (tel 04 76 88 60 06) is a large but inexpensive hotel on the central square (about 5minutes walk to the lifts). There are large rooms with balconies but it is quite French.
